Youth Hunt January 12th 2008
The youth hunt was successfully held on a windy and cool day. At least we didn't get rained out again. Twenty eight people attended with 10 youth hunters. All the youth hunters are required to have their hunter education certification and have watched the QU hunting safety video.
Trap shooting started the day for those that wanted to participate while others started in the field. Thanks to the dog handlers, Rob Michael, Micky Cruz, Jim Hardin, Jason Hardin, & Dan Nix. Many compliments were expressed to the dog handlers and the dogs themselves by the hunters. Excellent dog work was the norm with 5 Brittany's and 2 Shorthairs.
Don and Jenny Florys of "Country Hunts" provided excellent birds and GREAT FOOD! The group finished eating about noon and was asked if they wanted to return and clean up the leftover birds. More great hunting ensued and some birds were found in covey's.
Everyone had a great time and several young people there who did not participate, asked about the next planned hunt. Dan said one participant from the 4H shooting team would have put veteran bird hunters to shame.
